B-LAB: Aphid control by attracting beneficials in organic tunnel cultivation
This project focuses on organic growers of vegetables and/or flowers who use tunnels to extend their growing season and to bring them in the possibility to start selling earlier. The increased temperature and protection against frost create an ideal environment for aphids to reproduce rapidly. However, the population of natural enemies usually develops too late to provide effective control. Therefore, we aim to identify which (perennial) flowers, ornamental plants, or other commercially valuable plants can provide nectar and pollen in early spring, attracting natural enemies into the tunnels to enable timely pest management.
