BIODIVERSIKAS: Introducing more biodiversity in organic unheated greenhouses
Sustainable crop protection relies primarily on prevention and natural enemies for a natural biocontrol. Organic unheated greenhouse growers note that there is a big difference in the biodiversity present in greenhouse and open air crops. Besides, the release of commercial beneficials seems more difficult than in heated crops. Establishing a balance of nature in unheated greenhouses therefore requires a separate approach. However, there appears to be hardly any knowledge on biodiversity when growing in unheated greenhouses. With this project, six organic and diversified unheated greenhouse growers, together with BioForum and HoGent and PSKW as research partners, want to find solutions by agro-ecological principles to get more biodiversity for a better ecological balance. In this way, ecosystem services will also be optimised in this cultivation system.
