Grass-clover management from an arable farming perspective
Various organic arable and vegetable farms are incorporating grass-clover into their cultivation plans. While the benefits of grass-clover for subsequent crops are fairly well-known, practical implementation shows a diversity of approaches in terms of management and utilization of this grass-clover.
No experiments were conducted in this project, but instead, existing knowledge and practical experience were compiled into a brochure for growers.
The brochure not only highlights the benefits of grass-clover but also addresses potential challenges.
Additionally, it provides insights into soil requirements for optimal grass-clover cultivation, along with recommendations for the ideal mixture composition and the best sowing time. Furthermore, various management options are discussed, ranging from mowing and mulching to using grass-clover for fodder or as a green manure. Finally, attention is given to the destruction method and the selection of a suitable subsequent crop.
