Body
In recent years, we have seen a serious increase in the pest pressure and damage of aphids and cabbage whitefly, partly due to increasing drought. The removal of some important crop protection products will only aggravate these problems. The remaining agents are often less selective to beneficial insects or have more limited efficacy. In the project BREVAL - integrated control of aphids and cabbage whitefly in cabbage crops, we therefore want to develop an integrated control strategy (IPM) for these pests to ensure yield and quality also in the coming years.
We want to achieve this through the following actions:
- Investigate which factors, measures and varieties stimulate or inhibit pest populations, in order to better predict and/or anticipate problems.
- Building knowledge on the main natural enemies, their abilities and in what conditions they occur.
- Re-evaluating biological agents with optimal spraying techniques and investigating an adapted strategy for release of commercial enemies in open field crops.
- Demonstration of selectivity of plant protection products and layout of an integral IPM system for pests in cabbage cultivation.
